Let’s not mince words, Pillars of Eternity is punishing, especially if you aren’t used to the quirks of real time, round based combat systems or are familiar with how to exploit all the interlocking systems to become a god. Wizard is okish in the beginning, but becomses really strong late game (but there is friendly fire with some spells). He has spells, that prevent every status effect in the game, or prevent death, buffing and he has high fire damage. Get sure, you have a Priest in your party. Chanter is also good, because you don't need any dexterity, because his chants have their own speed based on INT. Is playing as a mage a totally different experience, or doesn't it matter because you get companions anyway?įighter / Pala are best for pure tanking. I usually pick a fighter/paladdin kind of character. I'm never sure if I need to take away points from stats that aren't very relevant for my class, or if it's required to keep some points in less relevant stats too.Ĭould you guys give me some pointers? There are no such kickstarter NPCs in the DLCs. They don't contribute anything except for unrelated short stories that can be immersion breaking. Those have been contributed by crowdfunding campaign supporters, have odd names and can be recognized via their slightly yellowish/golden name plates. You learn about the integrated expansion around level 4-5 at the end of a base game quest in chapter 2. The White March includes companions for those three classes. In the base game, there is a story companion for each class except Barbarian, Monk, Rogue. Just notice that offense can be the better defense in this game. The story companion fighter can fill different roles, too, so two fighters in a party are no issue at all and can be a powerful choice. They will start at least one level lower than your player character, but that level difference becomes negligible soon.įighters are versatile and a good choice. You will also get the option to hire socalled adventurers aka "custom companions" you can build yourself. Also for companions (skills & abilities). The game is extremely balanced, so stomach decisions will work well.Īt any inn keeper, you will be able to retrain your character (attributes, skills, abilities) for a bit of gold. Make plausible choices with regard to the attributes based on which values the attributes govern. Spend the most time on the character creation screen.
